A teenage boy was discovered deceased just days after being falsely blamed of stealing the cremated remains of a deceased baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's mother and father found his body in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Start

The investigation heard how his mother got a communication on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if her son was her offspring. The message stated: "Tell him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, claiming her infant's remains had been taken in a burglary - a allegation which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An official inquiry from police later concluded the supposed burglary victim had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the property was not stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged taken ashes attracted online comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the messages, his mother said people "understood it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she said.

Emotional Health Impact

She explained that her son had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views really mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was arrested at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His parent said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like much longer".

When she talked to him about the alleged burglary, she said her child informed her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could use the toilet whenever he needed, but refuted taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her son was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that a 19-year-old encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no concerns on the evening before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she said, noting that he could not stand to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

School Response

The hearing heard from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On 8 November, she "heard some boys discussing that the student had been detained and that was the first I heard".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the educator said she called Kai's family telephone and left a message saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.

The court learned his family said they never receive that message.

Formal Finding

Lead coroner told the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Probably untruths were afterwards exaggerated and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and after his interview he was released whilst inquiries proceeded."

The coroner concluded: "There is no evidence that the acts or omissions of any organization caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to determine his purpose."
