Suspected Harasser Asked: 'However Imagine I Could Be Madeleine?'
A individual charged with stalking Kate McCann allegedly recorded her a voicemail message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who a jury heard has consistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial indicted with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court heard phone records and evidence recovered from phones recorded Ms Wandelt persistently asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over that period.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is among the most covered investigations and is still open.
'I Do Not Need Money'
A separate voicemail, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I feel what I know."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am she? What then? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"
"I don't want money, I have a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the message continued.
The panel was informed that via emails, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, forwarded early photographs to her phone in a attempt to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with law enforcement who compiled the evidence, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, as per the call data.
On October 9th, 2024, Gerry McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "a wrong number."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I won't give up and I intend to demonstrate my point."
The court heard Mrs Spragg struck up a connection through digital means with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a visit to the McCanns' residence in Leicestershire in December 2024.
Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out via communication app to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be treated respectfully in the period before the appearance to that location, the county, in last December.
The court learned message exchanges between the two defendants, in last November, planning endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her bins or from silverware at a restaurant.
"We have to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the visit to their house, the defendant sent a message which expressed: "We find ourselves positioned near the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark resembling detectives. I desired to accomplish this with another person I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The proceedings ongoing.
