Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
