Home Office Issues Extra Entry Permits for UCL Foreign Learners
Several hundred international learners will now be able to secure their guaranteed university positions subsequent to negotiations between the government visa authorities and UCL concluded with the government granting additional entry permits.
Immigration Quota Difficulties
Numerous of learners, plenty from East Asia, found themselves in uncertainty after University College London failed to accurately predict the demand for positions this academic year and exceeded its allocation of confirmation of acceptance for studies electronic documents permitted by the immigration authorities.
Institution Apology and Assistance
the institution offered apologies to those affected, informing them it was "truly apologetic for the interruption and uncertainty", and offering to compensate £1,000 costs for applications made through the UK immigration system's "super priority service".
We're pleased to be able to assure our impacted overseas learners that they can at last commence their studies at our university.
Extraordinary Applications
The institution said "an exceptional rise in applications" was responsible for the surplus intake, and had originally informed learners with secured spots that they should defer until the following academic year, leading many to express concern they encountered economic disadvantages after advance payment for flights and accommodation.
Favorable Outcome
Following discussions between University College London and the UK visa officials at the end of last weekend, scholars were informed that they would receive entry permits after all.
A spokesperson for the institution stated: "We sincerely express regret to all those who have been impacted by the recent period of uncertainty and we are exceptionally appreciative for their patience. Our personnel are now working quickly to contact scholars directly with news and help.
Learner Feedback
Some learners reported they had been sent digital communications from University College London within the past 48 hours indicating their study acceptance confirmations would be issued, a key requirement to be awarded a education visa. A few said they had yet to been given official notice.
A learner said: "I'm ecstatic to be able to study in the UK. We were informed various pieces of information since the previous month, it was incredibly challenging. I was already obligated to covering costs for accommodation in the capital, with no refund available, so I am very relieved."
Geographic Consequences
About 200 students from East Asia were concerned, with a number already in the UK at the close of recent weeks for the start of the university term. Those on taught postgraduate courses were informed they had to be present by 10 October or lose their spot.
We cannot thank you enough for your patience with this process and we are truly apologetic for the inconvenience and uncertainty which this will have caused you.
